Snowmastodon! Snow Day Adventure

Paul Antonson is the illustrator of Snowmastodon! Snow Day Adventure.

Paul was born in Detroit, Michigan and is the youngest of four boys.  His mother and father encouraged creativity and the result is that he and his brothers are all artists. After a number of years in Pittsburgh he went on to study illustration and receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Syracuse University. After graduation, Paul moved to Burlington, Vermont to pursue freelance illustration and became a great adherent of snowboarding.  After 4 quality years of making art for the likes of Burton Snowboards and local publications (and doing lots of snowboarding) it was time to move to New York City and continue to pursue creative opportunities.

Paul soon began working for the Wall Street Journal producing illustrations and designing interactive graphics.  Freelance projects continued including work for The New York Press, The Onion, Cambridge University and a 10 year collaboration with The Village Voice creating the illustrations for the Siren Music Festival which was held in Coney Island each July.

While living in New York he met the ever-amazing Kristina and they were married in the Hudson Valley in 2009.  Paul and Kristina had both been in New York for 10 years when they had the opportunity to move to northern California where Kristina is receiving her medical residency with UC Davis. Eager for a more relaxed environment with great proximity to snowy mountains they drove across the country with their two cats in the back seat are thoroughly enjoying life in Sacramento.

Today, Paul continues to produce interactive graphics for the Wall Street Journalwhile pursuing freelance illustration.  In 2011 he won a Webby award for an animated WSJ video in which he provided illustrations.  Snowmastodon! is his first children’s book.
